Description:
This is a very nice set of large saddle bags made by the Utahn Saddle Co. located in Vernal, Utah. The company is no longer in existence and our best guess as to age is from the 1970’s. They are listed in Old Cowboy Saddles and Spurs by Gretchen and Mike Graham. The book states they were in business from 1967 to 1988. The only other information we were able to gather online about the company is from user forums. Based on this information they made quality saddles and built a parade saddle for Jay Silverheels who played Tonto on the Lone Ranger show.

The saddle bags are carved with acorns and oak leaves and have a running horse scene carved on the front of each flap. It does not look like these bags have ever been on a saddle. They are in excellent condition. There is one strap that has some damage as shown in the close up picture and what looks like a glue spot on the back of one bag. The brads have some green patina from age. These bags would be nice to use or to display with a western collection.
