Liberty, our gentle giant with a heart as big as her stature! Liberty is an impressive 17.3-hand Belgian cross mare, and her personality truly matches her towering presence. This mare is a seasoned pro who’s done it all—she’s a true “been-there, done-that” kind of horse. From expertly driving single and double carriages to skillfully pushing cattle, Liberty has proven herself invaluable around the ranch. She’s also been the trusted companion for hauling my little sister on adventures and packing gear into the mountains. No job is too odd or challenging for her! Liberty absolutely thrives in town life as well. She’s seen it all—bikes zipping by, cars roaring, trains chugging, and dogs barking—but nothing fazes her. She’s confidently taken us everywhere, crossing bridges, ducking under tunnels, fording rivers, and loves those peaceful night rides around our college town. She’s also a fantastic teacher, having given both English and Western riding lessons to kids, and safely guided beginner and young riders on trail rides. My 1&2 year olds ride her daily! Liberty truly embodies the spirit of a “family” horse—dependable, patient, and loving. Her manners are impeccable: she loads easily, ties calmly, stands quietly for grooming and bathing, and even has been roped off of!. She can sidepass smoothly up to any mounting block or object you need, and she stands perfectly still for mounting and dismounting. Plus, she lowers her head willingly for haltering and bridling. Liberty goes barefoot and is incredibly cooperative, happily picking up her feet for cleaning without the need for stocks. In short, you won’t find a more versatile and reliable giant anywhere.
