Just four years old, and no spook, no buck, no funny business. We’ve used him on the ranch for the last year and a half. I’ve drug calves on him, gathered lots of cattle and not ever been afraid to crawl on him fresh and just trot off. He doesn’t mind the rope around his butt, doesn’t mind being ridden bareback and will cross or climb through anything you point him at. I’ve clawed my way through brush and dense trees, crossed the river on him, been through boggy ground and had turkeys fly up right under his nose. Not much phases him. He’s a big dude, a full 16 hands. He’s got a nice lope and is very willing. We’ve ponied colts with him and he’s stout at the horn. As easy going as he is, he’s not a dead head. He wants to go somewhere. He’s not got the big motor that I like in a horse. He rides with a loose rein and we use one pretty hard here on the ranch. Rio would make a great Western pleasure horse for a young person or a lady. His relaxed attitude makes him a pleasure to ride, and he doesn’t care at all when others ride away from him. He’s not “fancy” broke, but does everything you ask of him with no bad habits. He wants to watch a cow and would probably make a head horse, though we haven’t roped anything in an arena on him, that’s just not us. We’ve had first graders poke around in the pens on him, laughing and shaking the reins and he stays quiet. I feed him a gallon and a half of oats daily and he never gets fresh. I just can’t say enough good about him! I’ve only got one “bad” thing to mention. We are starting a little two year old filly that is VERY high strung and I didn’t want her to be the only one we kept up in the stalls, so I kept Rio in, next door to her. It sure helped keep her calm, but in just a few days, he rubbed a big part of his mane out. I could have cried! He had the prettiest mane... I’m a pencil artist and I’ve even done a drawing of his hair... so some of the pictures I’m posting here are older, and show how pretty it WAS, and the new pictures show what it looks like currently. It WILL grow back! My husband thinks this is a deal breaker and no one will want him with an ugly mane. But I’m going to offer him for sale anyway, knowing that he is the perfect fit for someone out there that’s looking for a big, pretty, gentle gelding with his whole life ahead of him. This is the horse you can go do a days work on, the wife can take to the show ring and the kids can play around bareback on. And to “help” with the missing mane, (it is already starting to grow back) I’m including a signed print of my drawing of him. I’ll include a picture of it here too. I’ll be upfront and 100% honest with you, so please don’t waste my time if you’re not really serious. He’s going to make someone a fantastic “forever” horse.
