Wanted: person with many hours a day to spare. You need to be willing to ditch everything at the drop of a hat and come running. This isn’t a position for somebody that just wants to get away from his or her wife, husband, girlfriend, boyfriend, family or kids for a couple hours a day. Maybe if charming wife didn’t spend all day writing humorous ads for help, we wouldn’t need to hire someone.

Job description: Fix fence, drive tractors, ride horses (no 4-wheelers allowed), feed cows, move cows on horseback, put up with semi-crotchety boss, fix more fence where the neighbors bull smashed through because our cows are so good looking, work on machinery, fix more fence where some crazy driver demolished it, work on wife’s honey do list, drive junky pickups, babysit - if the job you were supposed to do if more enjoyable than watching the kids, and put up with teasing.

If you like to work hard, but not get paid a lot, this could be the job for you.

If you’re lucky, we’ll probably feed you. You must compliment the cook on lunch even if it’s burned beyond recognition. We call those days “Cajun.”

Don’t forget your sense of humor; you’ll need it around here. But hey, the pleasure is in our company.

Must have a valid driver’s license and transportation to and from work. We won’t come pick you up, but, we might take you home if cow # 666 freight lined you when you had your back turned.

Full-time ranch technician needed for a family owned and operated cow/calf, heifer development ranch in northeastern Colorado. We’re seeking long term, full time, responsible person with cow/calf background and experience. Mature, hardworking, animal friendly, nonsmoker needed with skills in low-stress cattle management, calving, breeding, rotational grazing, fencing, machine operation and maintenance. Other things you’d be expected to do include but aren’t limited to: checking cows and calves, doctoring, tagging, branding, putting out salt and mineral, running the feed wagon, driving tractors, riding horses for cattle work, fixing broken stuff, mowing, and mechanic-ing. We are a horseback operation, no ATVs, no farming.

Other stuff you’ll need to know: we work in all kinds of weather, all day. The livestock chores and other tasks have to be done one way or the other. If you’re expected at work, please be there because we’re depending on you. Don’t call if you don’t have a strong work ethic; you need to be reliable, responsible, honest, and able to work alone or with others – sense of humor a plus especially when things are going poorly.

Must know how to read, write, and speak English, and have a valid driver’s license. No drunks or drug users. I don’t want to have to explain that to our kids.
