He has been a slave his entire life and has had to work for every meal he got to eat, and he is now looking for a nice retirement home where he will be loved and taken care of. Bourbon is gentle for just about anyone and stays that way even if not ridden regularly, and he will not take advantage of his rider. He will adjust himself to the level of his rider, gentle for beginners but will step it up so even more experienced riders will enjoy him. Bourbon is an 18 year old buckskin roan gelding, 15.1 hh. He is laid back and rides quietly on a loose rein, but will get up and go if you ask him to. In his prime he was one heck of a nice ranch horse, and has been used for all phases of ranch work including roping and gathering cattle in the pasture, sorting pairs, and tagging and doctoring calves. Bourbon has an excellent handle, is good on both leads, will sidepass, and open and shut gates. He would be the perfect horse for a young cowboy who wanted to help his dad or granddad around the ranch, a weekend rancher who wanted a horse to check fence and push cattle, or just a safe horse to have around the ranch for trail riding or occasional cattle work. Bourbon has never offered to buck or rear, and is the type of horse you can let sit for weeks or months and then just hop on without having to worry about getting bucked off. He is a pleasure to ride out in the pasture, crosses water with no problem, and isn’t spooky. He has good ground manners and is easy to load, haul and shoe. He can be ridden out by himself or with other horses, will easily lead or follow, and doesn’t mind being separated from the group. Bourbon has also been ridden alongside the road and in traffic and isn’t bothered by it. Bourbon has some arthritis in his left front ankle and although he is not going to be 100% sound, he enjoys being ridden and is perfectly capable of going on long rides without a problem. $2000.
