Right now, I work in the dairy industry, been a working in dairy for over a year now. But I am really looking into working on a cattle ranch, rather than in dairy- so, with that being said, I don’t have much experience in ranching, but I really want to get into it. I do own a very small beef herd at my house, that I would like to expand someday. I only sell the beef to close friends and family at the moment. I’ve own this herd for about 4 years now. Over the past year from working on the dairy farm, I’ve learned how to: Artificially inseminate, although I am still learning- I took a class back in March, put on by NorthStar and have my own breeding kit. Drive a tractor, hauling wagons and using a spreader (and definitely willing to learn more on the tractor.) Vaccinate cows and calves, tube feed calves, drench cows, know how to do subcutaneous injections, give pills to cows and calves, know the signs of an ill cow or calf and how to treat some illnesses, know when a cow is close to labor, I know how to properly pull a calf when a cow is having trouble during labor, band castrate calves, and I know how to use an ear tagger to tag cattle. I do know how to saddle a horse to ride, as I use to own 2 horses of my own. I also use to work on an elk ranch (I worked there for about 3 years), and I know how to sort animals using an all terrain vehicle. I have a drivers licenses and my own vehicle. If anybody on here is looking for a new employee that they are willing to train, I am your girl! Which I really hope someone out there is willing to hire an inexperienced person, because I definitely am willing to learn! I will need housing, since I do live in Michigan.
