NATURE AND PURPOSE Under general supervision, an employee in this class is responsible for shop skilled diagnostics, maintenance and repair of engines and hydraulics, transmissions, and electrical systems powering heavy duty equipment, including trucks, farm machinery construction equipment and vehicles. Performs equipment and electrical troubleshooting to test operational efficiency of engines and drive train, hydraulic and exhaust systems, etc. and determines the cause(s) of malfunction(s). Prescribes and performs emergency repairs to equipment. Performs related work as required. RESPONSIBILITIES • Mechanic will maintain a large fleet, keep accurate service records and maintain a clean and organized work area. In addition, they will also drive a service truck to various job sites around ranch owned property. • Troubleshoot, replace, and repair equipment so that equipment is kept in operational condition by making emergency repairs. • Maintain and repair light, medium, and heavy equipment so that down time is minimized, and equipment is available when needed by repairing engines, cooling system, heating and air conditioning systems, air, and hydraulic systems and electronically operated brakes and other equipment, transmission and drive train systems on equipment such as pickups, ATV’s, loaders, Farm and Over the Road tractors, feed wagons, windrowers, balers and other high performance engines. • Check equipment to monitor condition so that needed repairs are completed, and down time is minimized by making preventive maintenance inspections; checking for major repairs; diagnosing defective components. • Responsible for ordering parts and maintaining inventory of parts and supplies. • ANY MAJOR WORK AND OVERHAULS WILL BE OUTSOURCED. KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED Knowledge of: • Heavy equipment maintenance, diagnostics and repair techniques sufficient to perform installation, repair, and maintenance on light, medium, and heavy diesel and gas equipment; • Heavy equipment repair tools and rebuilding equipment sufficient to make correct and safe use of these in the repair, modification and maintenance of equipment; • Welding and fabrication experience is required and will be used on other ranch projects. • A Clean CDL record with driving experience is a plus but not required. Ability to: • Lift up to 80 pounds; • Must have a valid State issued Driver’s License; must have a clean driving record; must be able to pass pre-employment drug screening; • Must be willing to assist with other areas and functions on the farm and ranch. • Must be able to climb, crawl, sit, stand and lay on ground while working with the heavy equipment; • NEED A PERSON WHO ENJOYS AGRICULTURE AND THE ENVIRONMENT AND CHALLENGES IT BRINGS. Farm and Ranch Experience is a plus. • Must be self-motivated and can manage their responsibilities without having to be told what to do every step along the way.
