We can’t say enough good things about this gelding. Halter-horse looks, a fully trained cutter with earnings of $2,600 plus here in North Texas, incredibly well broke with a huge stop, and as gentle and good minded as they come. He’s a bit on the lazy side, but will get up and go if asked, but always comes back down to his calm and collected demeanor. We don’t bill any horses as "kid gentle," but this one comes as close to that as anything we have or have had in the barn. He has been trail ridden here on the ranch, packed novice riders around, gathered/sorted/shipped cattle, and used to give cutting lessons. If he were human he’d be called a "Renaissance Man." "Sugarman" had some front-end soreness at the beginning of this year that was diagnosed as soft-tissue inflammation in and around his impar ligament in his right front foot. We elected to have a neurectomy performed on that foot; he has come back into the riding program sound and sure-footed with no aftereffects whatsoever. Just a partial block, so he does have feeling in this foot. He has clean x-rays and there is nothing structurally wrong. Our vet will gladly entertain any questions about this horse’s soundness and long-term prognosis. In light of this condition, though, we would venture that "Sugarman’s" best potential in terms of a home rests with potential buyers who want an enjoyable family horse to do ranch and recreational riding, and not with a purchaser who is in a serious performance discipline looking for a horse to haul in heavy competition.
