If you want a safe, dependable horse that has been there, done that and isn’t phased by anything, then take a look at Captain. He is a cute 15 year old chestnut gelding, 15 hh with a sweet disposition and a kind eye. Captain has just been a slave on the ranch his entire life, and knows how to put in a hard days work. He is looking for someone to love and spoil him, and in return he will take care of them and be a fun, safe horse to ride. Whether you want to use him on the ranch, ride for pleasure, or take him to a team sorting or playday, Captain has the mind and ability to do it. He has been used on the ranch for all phases of ranch work, including roping and gathering cattle in the pasture, sorting pairs, and tagging and doctoring calves. Captain is cowy and excels in the sorting pen. He knows what to do on the end of a rope, and is very patient and forgiving of his rider’s mistakes. Captain has a really good handle, stops easily, and will sidepass, and open and shut gates. He rides quietly on a loose rein, is laid back but responsive, and has some gas if you ask him for it. He is too athletic for small children or total beginners, but would be great for intermediate or better riders. Captain can be ridden by himself or in a large group of horses with no problem. He will leave the group willingly and will happily lead or follow. He has also been ridden along the side of the road and in traffic and is not bothered by it. Captain has good ground manners, stands quietly tied, and is easy to load, haul, and shoe. He is hard to catch in a big pasture. $4000.
