Apply online at www.ddfl.org/careers Harmony Equine Center Department: Equine Center Pay range: $16.62/hour # of openings: 1 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Description Regular Full Time Position (40 hours/week, non-exempt) Primary Responsibilities •Develop and implement specific training for equines including general, ground, and under saddle work. •Correct equine behavioral issues. •Assist in overall evaluation of equines (behavioral, medical, adoptability). •Train Law Enforcement and volunteers on Horsemanship and train staff on general equine care. •Support adoptions by preparing horses from intake through the adoption process, maintaining equine records, and working with potential adopters. •Work with farrier on trimming and shoeing. •Work with veterinarians on medical evaluations and assist with euthanasia. •Teach Horsemanship classes. Education/Experience Required •High school diploma or GED. •Three years of professional experience and proven track record with horse training. •Firm understanding of every aspect of equines. •Strong communication and interpersonal skills. •Ability to be flexible, easygoing, and self-directed and motivated. •Strong work ethic, reliable, and a willing attitude. •Considerable physical strength and stamina. •Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. with reasonable accommodations. Desired •Associate or bachelor’s degree. •Colt starting ability. •Experience dealing with difficult or dangerous equines. •Experience with restraining equines. •Public speaking experience. Working Conditions Work is performed in a horse boarding/barn and outdoor setting. Potentially subject to animal bites, scratches, kicks and unpredictable dangerous situations. Frequent lifting up to 50 lbs. with reasonable accommodations. Frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, movement, and repetitive motion. Ability to ride equines through potential bucking, excessive running, and quick direction changes. Work outside in weather extremes, both heat and cold.
