Description:
BS Free Slidin Gold, or “Nugget” as we call him around the barn, is a 2019 registered AQHA dun gelding standing 15.2 hands tall. His pedigree goes back to Dash For Cash on the top side and Smart Chic Olena on the bottom. He’s bred to have the brains, ability, and looks—and I think he got a pretty good helping of all three.

Nugget is just an incredibly easy horse to have around. He’s got those big puppy-dog eyes that somehow convince you to stop at his stall every time you walk past just to say, “Hey buddy.” He’s friendly and always happy to see you, but he’s also respectful of your space and never pushy. Basically, he’s happy to be involved without feeling the need to be involved in absolutely everything you’re doing.

His ground manners are excellent. He stands tied quietly, bathes, tacks and grooms easily, and is a gentleman for the farrier. He has no bad habits and is just as pleasant to deal with on the ground as he is to ride. He’s the kind I enjoy having in the barn because he simply doesn’t create any barn drama.

Under saddle, Nugget is straightforward and uncomplicated. He has a really nice, soft one-hand neck rein, is soft in the bridle, carries a nice headset, and is perfectly happy traveling on a loose rein. He walks along relaxed without feeling hot or like he’s constantly trying to get somewhere.

His transitions are smooth and easy. Ask for the lope and he steps right into it without a big production. He stops when you ask, backs willingly, side passes, and has a nice pivot. He’s responsive enough that an experienced rider can appreciate his handle, but he doesn’t make riding feel complicated. I feel he would be suitable for riders of a wide range of experience levels.

Nugget is just as enjoyable outside of the arena. He’s a great trail horse and has been sensible and levelheaded out on the trails. He’s not a spooky horse and tends to think his way through things rather than overreact.

One thing he especially enjoys is cowboy obstacles. He’s curious, willing, and a quick learner. Even when you introduce him to something he hasn’t seen before, he listens to his rider and figures it out. That’s one of the things I really appreciate about him—he has a good mind and genuinely seems to enjoy learning.

He’s the kind of horse that could fit into a lot of different programs. Enjoy him in the arena, take him trail riding, continue with obstacles, or just keep him as a really nice all-around personal horse. He doesn’t need a complicated job to stay enjoyable, but he has the training and willingness to do more if that’s what you’re looking for.

Nugget recently had a veterinary health examination and is currently barefoot. I normally shoe most of my horses simply because we ride in extremely rocky country, but Nugget has impressed me with how good his feet are. He’s traveled over our rocky terrain barefoot without chipping his feet or taking a sore step, so I’ve never felt the need to put shoes on him.

Overall, Nugget is simply a nice horse. He’s kind, well mannered, well broke, willing to learn, and easy to enjoy both in and out of the saddle. He’s the type that makes owning and riding horses feel uncomplicated, and I think he’ll make someone a really enjoyable partner.

Take a look at Nugget’s video and let him show you what he’s like. If you have any questions or would like to talk about whether Nugget might be a good fit for you or your program, please feel free to reach out. I’d be happy to tell you more about him.
