$4,000/month + Housing

Overview

A well established, family run 1,000 head cattle operation in the Nebraska Sandhills is hiring a Ranch Hand to take ownership of its yearlings. The operation is cow/calf, but this role is focused on yearlings from weaning through turnout. It is based at its own ranch location, and you will support the cow/calf side during calving, branding, and other busy times. This role allows for a lot of independence but is not a management position. It is a great fit for someone who takes pride in their cattle, can run a daily routine without being told, and wants a long term home with a family that values good help.

Responsibilities

Care for calves and yearlings from weaning through turnout, including daily health checks and treatment

Feed cattle using a pickup with a Welker caker and a bale processor

Keep feeding consistent and watch yearling performance closely

Monitor cattle health in both pasture and lot settings and doctor as needed

Care for fall heifers and bulls, including feeding and monitoring

Move cattle between locations by horseback, ATV, or truck and trailer

Sort, ship, and prepare yearlings for sale

Support the cow/calf operation during calving season, preg checking, and branding

Build and repair fence and handle general ranch maintenance

Run and maintain feeding equipment, tractors, and hay equipment

Help with hay production including mowing, raking, baling, and moving bales

Check windmills, water, mineral, and salt

Spot what needs done and get it done without being asked

Qualifications

Prior ranch experience required

Strong eye for cattle health and the ability to catch issues early

Able to work independently and stay accountable without supervision

Experience feeding cattle and running basic ranch equipment

Able to operate truck and trailer

Basic equipment maintenance skills

Honest, dependable, and does what they say they will do

Strong work ethic with attention to detail

Willing to work within a multi generation family operation

Compensation and Benefits

$4,000/month
