Description:
The IX Ranch located in Big Sandy, MT is a legacy cow/calf and stocker operation that covers over 140,000 acres. There are 5 divisions within the ranch each working in conjunction with one another. The Eagle Creek Division Manager (ECDM) position is located in the Bear Paw Mountains and comprises a little over 35,000 acres of deeded, state and private leased lands. It receives an average of 13″ of moisture per year and typically has snow from December to March. This is a Chinook region of Montana so snow can come and go throughout the winter months. Temperatures in this region can range from as high as 100 degrees in the summer to -30 degrees in the winter. We are a progressive ranch embracing new technology including bull development and halter virtual fencing collars to name a few.

We have a full benefit package which includes of the following:

• Health Insurance

• House plus utilities provided

• Retirement Plan Matching

• Annual bonus

• Paid vacation

• Beef provided

• Meals/Cook Provided

• Big Sandy has a good school system from pre-school through High school.

The ECDM position is ideally a team position and will require one member of the team to cook for up to 8 employees from February through April (Calving Season). After calving season the ECDM may have one to two additional employees depending on the summer and fall workload. These employees live in a separate bunk house. There are also 4-6 times throughout the year that meals will need to be provided for more than two employees. These times would be pregnancy testing, weaning and shipping. The EDCM home is an older, well kept, three-bedroom home with a bath and a half and large dining/kitchen area. Facilities at this location include heated shop/bunkhouse, steel barn, full corrals and a horse round pen. There is a scaled Silencer chute, heated OB room (for heifers that need assistance during calving) and a large indoor calving barn. This location also includes a guest house for hunting and recreation activities.

Responsibilities:

The Eagle Creek Division Manager (ECDM) is responsible for 575 first-calf heifers from calving (February 15 to April 15) and through the summer to weaning, 650 replacement heifers from March through November and 800 cow/calf pairs from August to December. The ECDM will manage and supervise 5 employees through the calving season and then one to two employees post-calving as needed throughout the remainder of the year. The ECDM will be responsible for herd health, hay inventories and feeding schedules as well as cattle movement schedules. ECDM will be responsible for coordinating with DM’s for livestock and other ranch activities as necessary. In addition to maintaining and managing the Eagle Creek division livestock, the ECDM will be responsible for ~100 miles of fence and 100 acres of flood irrigation (all gated pipe and dependent on spring runoff).
