Ed (Commander Cody) 8-year-old papered gelding I have videos and pictures of Ed doing g everything call me up I can talk about this horse for hours. 402-310-2044

Ed is a handy, level-headed gelding that’s been used for ranch work, night calving, ranch rodeos, feedyard work, and doctoring cattle. He’s doctored cattle by himself, roped big cattle and knows how to hold one and face up like he should.

He’s quiet after time off. You can let him sit for months, saddle him, snug the cinches, and lope off on a loose rein on a cold morning. He goes the speed you ask, has a comfortable lope and long trot, is light in the face, and will run to one to rope. He’s got enough grit to put a shoulder into a stubborn cow or reach down and bite one when he needs to.

He’s also loaded fat cattle and works the tub well, including in the middle of the night. He’s been around flags, whips, hot shots, and rattle paddles. He loads and backs out of the trailer, picks up his feet to shoe or trim, and is easy to be around. I’ve ridden him bareback and even had him in the house.

I want to be honest about his legs! He hasn’t held up to the miles I need from a feedyard horse. He gets used about every third day, and on a workday we may cover 12–15 miles in all kinds of Ground conditions. His stifles were ultrasounded at Nebraska Equine with nothing concerning found. His hocks were X-rayed; there is a finding there, though my vet said it wasn’t anything severe. We tried one round of injections without a noticeable change. He can have a little hitch coming down a hill or stopping hard. I have the X-rays and can share them. My vet said to use him like nothing was wrong, but I don’t feel right asking him to keep doing that kind of long hard work days. He will suit someone looking for a seasoned, quiet horse for less demanding work.
