I have spent the last two years working big country with a short crew and tight budget and know how to get a lot of cow work done with little resources. I’ve cowboyed throughout the southwest and worked on big wagon outfits to little 450 head family ranches and excelled at both. I’ve successfully planned and led works in country both rough and easy, haired over and open, and on outfits with pastures measuring in the hundreds of sections and others where the ranch didn’t total over 30. Having worked in a lot of different country and for a lot of different people, I am open to new ideas especially when it comes to regionally specific range and ranch management practices, and know that there is often more than one way to accomplish a task. That being said there is always a "best" way to do a particular thing and I endeavor to find that "best" way. I was blessed to spend many of my formative years at Babbitt’s in northern Arizona and go back to how that outfit operated as a benchmark from which to judge efficiency, consistency, and longevity of an outfit. When entrusted with a position of leadership or management, it has and continues to be my goal to emulate the efficiency, consistency,and competency which defined the management of Babbitt’s. I am proficient in all the skills associated with the cowboy part of my profession. More than that, I have had the opportunity to lead others both during the works and the less busy times on a number of outfits. I can manage and prioritize tasks both for myself and for an organization and have had the privilege of leading crews to the successful completion of many tasks, projects, and seasonal works/wagons. In addition to this, I have both formal and self-education in the fields of range health, cattle nutrition, and grazing management. I have been involved in planning and implementing grazing plans, supplemental feed rationing, and setting budget goals. I’ve been entrusted with making cuts and retention decisions to achieve herd goals of efficiency in the cows and profitability in the calves. I have also worked with both federal (Forest Service) and state land management partners in implementing desired grazing goals as well as in securing funding and material for projects. I also possess experience and some degree of proficiency in: welding, fencing, packing, water line and storage/drinker maintenance and installation, operation of water trucks, basic mechanicing, and operation of skid steers, backhoes, loaders, and forklifts, and have designed and built working pens. Ideally, I would like to stay in Arizona, New Mexico, or west Texas but am open to opportunities in NV, CO, or UT. While much of this add focuses on management, at this point in my life being married with four children, I would be equally open to the right camp position if it offers good pay and a decent amount of autonomy to be involved in church and a community when not during the works.
