Description:
We are seeking a long term candidate to immediately step into a ranch hand role. Aside from already having a solid foundation of knowledge and skills in cattle handling and ranching operations, the ideal candidate would be honest, intrinsically motivated, independent, and reliable. An applicant who is detail oriented, a self-starter,  and passionate about learning would also be desirable. Training can be provided in areas with lesser experience, however, the candidate must have enough experience to fill their role immediately upon being hired.



The ranch is located in north central Montana. We are located over an hour from groceries and city amenities. The candidate must be willing and able to live in a rural setting on several miles of gravel road.



The ranch is expansive and very low-input. For this reason, it is crucial that the candidate be able to fulfill their tasks independently without the need for constant directions, instructions, baby-sitting or micromanaging. Due to the low-input nature of the ranch, the manger and the ranch hand will often divide and conquer different tasks on the ranch, so the candidate must be able to reliably work alone. No job is below the manager and this is not a peon position, but is instead more of a shared responsibility role. We seek to maintain an appropriate work-life balance; however, it is a ranching position and will require some long days, early mornings, and working into some evenings.



Duties will include, but are not limited to, herd health, calving, feeding, moving and working cattle, haying, general maintenance of equipment and stock tanks, etc. This is not strictly a horseback position. The candidate would need to be detail oriented, a problem solver, and take initiative.



The ranch utilizes both horses and four wheelers at various times and good stockmanship and the ability to read and understand cattle is important. A holistic mindset is also appreciated.



Housing is provided, a work truck for on ranch use, and beef. Additional benefits may be available for the right candidate. Pay is dependent on experience.
