We have 19 pumps (13 pivots & 6 side rolls) and get our water from the Tongue River. We have a mixture of T&L and Valley pivots. Our irrigated grounds are currently in a permanent pasture mix but will be transitioning to alfalfa beginning in 2027. The Hay/Irrigation manager is a hands on position and will work closely with the General Manager. He/She will be responsible for the day to day operations on the farm side of the business and oversee 2-3 full time and up to 3 seasonal employees. Budgeting, forecasting, tracking & reporting yields, and any issues related to their operation to the GM timely are all part of the position. Major mechanical repairs are either taken to town or done in the field by technicians but this position requires the knowledge and ability to perform all services and minor mechanical repairs on all of our farm equipment to include swathers, round balers, rakes, disks, seeders, etc. We have modern equipment and have nice housing and facilities. Leadership & people skills are critical to this position. The ideal candidate is able to work with their head up, have a desire for efficiency, & be pleasant to be around. This is a no drama environment and we focus on solutions, not problems and are looking for like minded individuals. Benefits include: employer paid health insurance for the family, (MT BCBS gold preferred PPO) 401k with a 3% match after 6 months, ranch vehicles for work use, & beef. Full time employees provide their own telephone and internet. All other utilities provided by the ranch. 3 bedroom house available. This position is for 1 person but the opportunity for spousal hourly or day work exists either helping haying, irrigating, cleaning, cooking, etc. Birney has a nice k-8 school with a great teacher.
