Facebook Fever “Famous”

I’ll start this one with a confession: Famous is currently my barn favorite. I’m probably not supposed to have favorites…but apparently nobody explained that rule to him.

“Facebook Fever,” affectionately known around the barn as Famous, is a 2017 model red roan gelding standing 15.1 hands tall and sired by the well-known stallion Facebook Me. Famous certainly inherited his daddy’s good looks, but thankfully, he also got the personality, trainability, and natural talent to go along with them.

Famous is what I would call the best of both worlds. Want to load up Saturday morning, head to your local open show, and enter the English, Western AND Ranch classes? Famous says, “Let’s go.” Would you rather skip the show clothes altogether, throw on your trail saddle, and spend the afternoon wandering through the woods? He’s perfectly happy doing that too.

That’s what makes this gelding so special.

Famous is VERY well broke and incredibly enjoyable to ride. He naturally carries himself with a low head set, has an easy slow jog, and a beautiful collected long trot on a loose rein that I would absolutely love to see going around a Ranch Pleasure pen. Ask for the lope and he’s right there—one step into a collected, comfortable lope that’s easy to sit and just plain fun to ride.

He side passes, pivots, neck reins with ease, and has the buttons and foundation you’d expect from a horse with his background.

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not the world’s greatest English rider, but Famous doesn’t seem to mind. In fact, he’s one of my favorite horses to practice on because he makes it FUN. He’s comfortable, forgiving, and versatile enough that you can change saddles and disciplines without him wondering what kind of identity crisis we’re having today.

Over the past year, Famous has primarily been used as a trail and lesson horse, so he hasn’t been living the full-time show-horse lifestyle. That being said, the training is still there. I don’t believe it would take much consistent riding at all to have him polished up, show ready, and turning heads in the pen again.

And personally, I’d LOVE to see him back in the show pen.

He has the build, movement, training, and presence to be incredibly competitive, while still being the horse you can actually enjoy when there isn’t a judge watching. Whether someone wants to pursue Ranch Pleasure, Western, English, Showmanship, open shows, or simply have one really nice horse that can do a little bit of everything, Famous has the ability to go in so many directions.

He’s every bit as enjoyable on the ground. Famous leads quietly and respectfully and would make a great Showmanship prospect. He stands tied, tacks and bridles easily, bathes, clips, loads, and handles all the everyday barn routine without a fuss. He’s good for both the veterinarian and farrier and gets along well with other horses.

Now, don’t mistake “well broke” for “no personality.” Famous has PLENTY of that. 😂 He’s friendly, personable, and loves goofing off and playing with his pasture buddies. He’s one of those horses that you find yourself spending extra time with simply because he’s fun to have around.

He stalls well, pastures well, and has no vices.

There are plenty of pretty horses. There are plenty of broke horses. And there are plenty of versatile horses. Finding all three wrapped up in the same red roan package is where things get difficult.

Famous comes with a current Coggins and recent veterinary health examination and is ready for his next person.
