If SAFE and BROKE are what you care about most in a horse, the Penny is the one for you. She is 100% kid, grandma, everyone approved, and is that way every single time you ride her. Even with time off, you can saddle her up and know she will not do anything to get you hurt. Penny is a 16 year old mare who has been on a big cattle ranch her entire life. She is 14.3hh, low to the ground and easy to get on but also stout enough for a large adult to ride. We have done so many things with her and taken her a lot of places and there is literally nothing that spooks or bothers her. Penny has an excellent handle, and rides just as good bareback with a rope around her neck as she does with a saddle and bridle. She is very broke, light enough a small child can neck rein her around with just a simple hackamore, and has a very good stop. Penny has been ridden on the highway around traffic, on the ranch, on large multi day trail rides, and rides just as good away from home as she does at home. She was recently ridden at our local rodeo with a 9 year old very beginner rider, all over the parking lot, through the crowds and all the excitement, and she took such good care of her. Penny travels out nicely in the pasture, crosses water with no problem, and will go up, over or through anything you point her at. She would be an excellent horse for a little cowboy or cowgirl who wanted to ride on the ranch with grandpa and learn how to work cattle. Penny has been used on the ranch for all phases of ranch work, including dragging calves, doctoring cattle out in the pasture, and sorting pairs. She has never offered to buck, rear, bite, kick or take off, and has excellent ground manners. Penny is easy to catch, good for the shoer, stands quietly tied, and loads and hauls well. She will ride out alone as well as with a group, will happily lead or follow, and the only thing we can fault her for is that she doesn’t like other horses sticking their nose up her rear end.
