We have a family focused, friendly, positive environment. We are looking for a team player that is fun and easy to work with, pleasant, strong moral values, and dedicated. We are looking for a long-term ranch hand. The position is for an all-around ranch hand, this is NOT just a riding job. We work cattle mainly on horse (rope and ride), we cut and put up hay for about 6 weeks during the year, we fix barbed wire fence, ride for sick cattle, and feed cattle with tractors in the winter. Horse riding, roping, seeing sick cattle, ... are needed. Mechanical skills such as welding, torching, fixing tractors, feeders, and haying equipment would be great. CDL is a positive as we truck our own cattle and haul hay. We have a friendly, fun, positive atmosphere and enjoy our work. We are looking for someone that will fit this. If some skills are lacking they can be gained but fit with the current team is critical. There is a ranch manager that leads the day to day and makes sure everything is getting done. This position is to work with him and others in a very positive manner. From March 1 until June 6th we are very busy with calving, branding, and getting ready to go to grass. Its at least a 6 day work week and can be 7 days some weeks. From June until August we are riding cattle on the forest, fixing fence, and enjoying the best summer range in the world. We do our best for a 5 day work week during this time. Late July and August we put up hay. This requires a lot of time in a tractor. This can revert to a 6 day work week. September through October is fall round up, working with cattle and selling the calves. Pretty busy time again. Nov, Dec, Jan, feed cattle. Cows eat everyday but this can be a 5 day work week much of the time as well. There is paid time off during June, July, Nov, Dec, and Jan. We want you to be happy and realize that requires personal time. We will do our best to meet needs in this area. We are looking for a long term relationship. This is not a temporary position. We are looking for someone that is planning on a long term stay. Personnel fit, team work, honesty, and attitude are more important than any particular skill needed. Skills can be learned. We need someone that fits our team and is a team player. This is not an easy job. You must be able to work physically hard and do physically challenging tasks. A lot will be expected of you in terms of effort and work. However, we want it to be enjoyable and pleasant. We dont want this to be your job. We want it to be your career and we want to do what we need to so that you see it as a career and that you see opportunities that excite you and make you feel part of the team and not an employee. As we grow we expect opportunity for you to grow as well. First qualification is willingness to learn. Be a positive, self motivated, hard working, smart planning, person. Other skills that are needed but can be learned are proficient horse riding, roping, identifying sick cattle and doctoring them. Mechanical skills. Change oil, brakes, welding, cutting, general maintenance. CDL. The salary is on the order of $3000 per month based on skill set with a $600 housing allotment. The ranch will provide feed for 1 horse. You may have other horses and dogs and that feed may be provided by the ranch but at cost to the owner. After a year, there may be options for co-owning yearlings or buying unbred then breeding and then selling bred heifers. There isn’t an option for running cattle or owning cows at this time. The co-owning is on livestock bought and sold in the same year.
