Room & Board: Room Phone #: 4062241818 Description: Seasonal Ranch Operations Assistant / Ranch Hand (June–October with potential for long-term growth) This seasonal position supports the Ranch Manager in the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and stewardship of a private working and recreational ranch property. The role is hands-on and wide-ranging, requiring a motivated, adaptable individual who enjoys diverse work responsibilities, takes pride in maintaining high standards, and is comfortable working independently and as part of a small team. The ideal candidate has strong horsemanship skills, practical ranch and equipment experience, good judgment, and a service-oriented mindset. This position works closely with ranch ownership, guests, contractors, and the Ranch Manager and plays an important role in maintaining a safe, organized, and well-operated property and guest experience. For the right individual, this position offers the opportunity to take on increasing responsibility over time and develop into a more senior operational role within the ranch. Primary Responsibilities Ranch Operations & Infrastructure Support • Assist with daily ranch operations and seasonal projects across the property • Maintain, repair, replace, and improve perimeter and interior fencing • Support maintenance and operation of ranch vehicles, trailers, ATVs/UTVs, tractors, and equipment • Assist with irrigation operation, monitoring, maintenance, and repair, including pivots, wheel lines, pumps, ditches, waterways, and stock water systems • Perform seasonal field work including harrowing, rolling, pivot track maintenance, weed management, rock picking, and general property upkeep • Assist with trail construction and maintenance for hiking and horseback riding access • Operate equipment safely and responsibly in varying terrain and weather conditions Horse & Guest Support • Assist with care and management of ranch horses, including feeding, grooming, saddling, turnout, corral maintenance, and general care • Ride horses regularly to maintain conditioning and suitability for owner and guest rides • Safely lead and support horseback rides for owners and guests both on and off the ranch • Assist with hauling horses and handling livestock as needed • Maintain tack, riding equipment, and horse facilities Property & Grounds Maintenance • Landscaping and grounds maintenance including mowing, weed eating, pruning, irrigation support, tree care, and seasonal projects • General maintenance and repair support for ranch buildings, employee housing, and recreational infrastructure • Support setup and preparation for owner and guest visits and activities • Assist with airport transportation and logistics as needed General Expectations • Maintain a professional, respectful, and discreet presence on the property • Work collaboratively with Ranch Manager, contractors, guests, and ownership • Demonstrate initiative, reliability, and strong problem-solving skills • Help maintain a safe, organized, and well-kept ranch environment • Be willing to work long hours during busy seasons, including occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays Desired Qualifications • Strong horse handling and riding experience in front-country and/or backcountry settings • Experience with ranch operations, fencing, irrigation, equipment operation, and general maintenance • Mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment preferred • Comfortable operating trucks and trailers, including backing and hauling • Experience with chainsaws, power tools, tractors, skid steers, and ranch equipment preferred • Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work in all weather conditions • Self-motivated with strong communication skills and good judgment • Positive attitude and ability to interact professionally with landowners, guests, neighbors, and service providers • Welding, electrical, hunting/outfitting, or wildlife management experience is a plus Position Details • Seasonal position generally running March through October • On-site housing provided • Competitive compensation based on experience • Opportunity for expanded responsibility and long-term employment for the right candidate This is not a traditional cattle ranch or cowboy position. While strong horsemanship and ranch experience are important, the role is centered on broad property operations, land stewardship, infrastructure maintenance, recreation support, and guest services within a highly diversified private ranch setting. Day-to-day responsibilities can vary significantly depending on seasonal priorities, property projects, and owner or guest activities, so flexibility, professionalism, good judgment, and the ability to adapt quickly are essential. The ideal candidate enjoys varied work, takes pride in maintaining a first-class property, and is comfortable shifting between physical labor, horse work, equipment operation, and guest interaction throughout the season while maintaining a respectful and discreet presence on the ranch. On-site housing is provided as part of the seasonal arrangement and is best suited for a single individual. While it may be possible for a couple to occupy the space depending on circumstances, it is not appropriate or configured for family living.
