Description:
Seasonal Ranch Operations Assistant / Ranch Hand

June–October | Housing Provided | Paradise Valley, Montana

Looking for a hardworking, self-motivated individual who enjoys horses, ranch work, equipment operation, and the variety that comes with life on a private Montana ranch.

Working independently and with the Ranch Manager, this is a hands-on position supporting the daily operations of a beautiful private recreational ranch in Paradise Valley. No two days are the same—you may be riding horses, repairing fence, operating equipment, maintaining irrigation systems, helping with guest activities, or tackling property improvement projects.

What You’ll Do:

•Assist with day-to-day ranch operations and seasonal projects

•Build, repair, and maintain fencing

•Operate and maintain tractors, ATVs, UTVs, trucks, trailers, and ranch equipment

•Support irrigation systems, stock water systems, and field maintenance

•Care for ranch horses including feeding, grooming, saddling, riding, and facility upkeep

•Lead and assist with owner and guest horseback rides

•Perform landscaping, grounds maintenance, and general property upkeep

•Assist with ranch facilities, housing maintenance, and recreational infrastructure

•Help prepare for owner and guest visits

We’re Looking For Someone Who Brings:

•A strong work ethic and personal accountability

•Proven horse handling, riding, and/or wrangling experience

•Comfort with rural living and hands-on outdoor work

•Mechanical aptitude and practical problem-solving skills

•A hospitality-forward mindset and commitment to creating safe, positive guest experiences

•Respect for the land, wildlife, horses, equipment, and team culture

•Flexibility, professionalism, and the ability to adapt as priorities change

•Sound judgment, discretion, and a respectful presence when interacting with owners, guests, neighbors, and contractors

Bonus Skills:

•Welding

•Equipment repair

•Electrical experience

•Hunting/outfitting experience

•Wildlife management knowledge

Position Details:

•Seasonal position (typically Mar-Oct with potential for extended 2026 season)

•On-site housing provided

•Competitive salary based on experience

•Opportunity for long-term employment and increased responsibility for the right candidate

This is not a traditional cowboy position. There are no cows and the work is highly varied. We’re seeking a well-rounded ranch employee who takes pride in maintaining a first-class property, enjoys varied work, and can transition seamlessly between horse work, equipment operation, maintenance projects, and guest interaction. This ranch is built on strong relationships, mutual respect, and a genuine appreciation for the people who work here. We work hard, enjoy the lifestyle, and value teamwork, stewardship, and a positive attitude.

On-site housing is provided and is best suited for a single individual. This is a single-position hire, though housing may accommodate a partner depending on circumstances. One horse may be allowed with feed included.

Physical requirements: This position is physically demanding and performed primarily outdoors in all weather conditions including heat, cold, wind, rain, and snow. Applicants must be able to safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and occasionally more with assistance; walk, hike, and ride horses over uneven terrain; bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb; and comfortable working independently in remote settings where wildlife are active, including grizzly bears.

Must have a valid US drivers license, an insurable driving record, and be able to pass a criminal background test.

To apply & learn more, please submit a resume and a brief description of your horsemanship and ranch experience to: bigcreekMT@gmail.com.
