Herdsmen are responsible for yearling cattle care and management across private ranch pastures and mountain forest grazing allotments. Approximately 90% of the work is conducted on horseback. We are looking for safety-oriented individuals with strong cattle and horse handling skills who can take initiative, solve problems, and work well in a growing ranch operation. HP Livestock draws on progressive soil, grass, and cattle management principles to support excellence and continuous improvement in irrigation, equipment operation, machinery maintenance, and ranch infrastructure. The ranch provides workers’ compensation insurance, a benefits package after a probationary period, and ranch-provided beef. Housing is provided, and utility costs are paid by the ranch. Housing can accommodate a single person or a married couple. Depending on operations and applicant interest, this position may be year-around or seasonal. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: •Ride to move, check, and gather yearling cattle on forest grazing allotments and private property. •Build and move electric fencing for grazing in ranch pastures. •Manage and operate virtual fence systems. •Identify and doctor sick cattle. •Place mineral and salt on grazing permits. •Receive and ship cattle at the beginning and end of the season. •Minimize death loss and unaccounted-for cattle. •Repair water troughs and fencing on Forest Service grazing allotments and private property. •Care for ranch horses. •Assist with irrigation as needed. •Keep barns swept daily at the end of the day. •Organize and clean work areas, including barns and shops. •Perform other tasks that arise in a cattle operation. REQUIREMENTS: •Excellent cattle management and horse skills, including roping, administering medicine, and corral maneuvering. •Experience with, or willingness to learn, Bud Williams animal handling techniques. •Ability to work independently and as part of a team. •Valid driver’s license. •Ability to move, lift, and maneuver up to 50 lbs.
