This leadership position is responsible for herd health, grazing management, livestock handling, and supervision of livestock personnel while helping support the long-term success of the ranch. Key Responsibilities Manage daily care, health, and performance of the cattle herd Adhere to low-stress cattle handling practices. Coordinate vaccinations, veterinary care, breeding, calving, branding, and weaning activities. Develop feeding programs and grazing rotations. Oversee livestock movement, shipping, receiving, and marketing preparation. Maintain livestock records and inventory. Supervise fulltime and seasonal employees. Coordinate with the Facilities & Equipment Manager on operational needs and infrastructure maintenance. Operate ranch equipment and assist with routine maintenance and repairs. Required Qualifications Proficiency in cattle health, nutrition, grazing, prairie/pasture management and low-stress cattle handling practices. Experience operating tractors, trailers, ATVs/UTVs, and ranch equipment. Ability to safely work livestock horseback and/or on foot. Supply own horses Valid driver’s license with clean driving record and livestock hauling experience Ability to lift 50+ pounds and work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently. Ability to complete required certifications such as BQA or other similarly required on-going education or certification classes Preferred Qualifications Minimum 5 years of cattle ranching or livestock management experience. Experience with herd recordkeeping software or livestock tracking systems such as Google Docs Mechanical repair, construction/carpentry and/or welding experience. Experience supervising ranch employees or contractors. Knowledge of Oregon agricultural and livestock regulations. Provide and maintain trained working stock dogs capable of safely and effectively assisting with cattle handling, gathering, sorting, and movement across ranch properties and leased grazing lands. Performance-based bonus opportunities and incentives Work Environment This position operates across thousands of acres of owned and leased grazing land, including prairies, timberland, canyons, and mountainous terrain. The Livestock Manager must be comfortable working independently in remote locations, adapting to changing weather conditions, and responding to seasonal livestock demands.
