The ranch encompasses several thousand acres of deeded land and grazing leases ranging from scenic forested mountain country to rugged high desert range. This is a full-time, year-round position, though seasonal employment may be considered for the right applicant. The position is primarily horseback, though not exclusively, and requires an individual capable of working independently and unsupervised for extended periods of time, while also being able to work effectively with a small crew when needed. The 4M values practical stockmanship, horsemanship, stewardship of the land, and low-stress livestock handling practices. We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, enjoys ranch life and the outdoors, and is willing to continue learning and improving in all aspects of the job. Responsibilities include monitoring cattle, identifying and treating sick or injured livestock, observing range conditions, evaluating grass availability and utilization, and monitoring water quantity and quality across large pastures and mountain permits. Additional duties include livestock handling and herding, pasture doctoring, cattle processing, fence construction and repair, salt and mineral distribution, and general ranch work associated with a large western cow-calf operation. Applicants should possess: • Knowledge and experience in low-stress livestock handling and stockmanship • Safe, practical horsemanship with good common sense • Above-average ranch roping ability • Ability to identify and monitor sick or injured cattle • A strong work ethic and willingness to work long hours when required • Physical ability to perform demanding ranch work • Resourcefulness, dependability, and the ability to work independently • A willingness to learn and improve in all aspects of ranch work A string of 3 to 5 personal ranch horses is essential. Riding outside horses is acceptable if they are used for ranch work. Housing includes a one-bedroom house located approximately 20 miles from Meeker. Internet provided. Beef provided.
