It comprises 474 acres and includes the Oscar Thomas Nutrition Center, Miller Pavilion, Horseshoeing School and Horticulture Farm. BART also has a research feedlot, Calan gate facility, GrowSafe system, feed mill and artificial insemination building. Surrounding pastures and hayfields help support the animals housed there, including beef cattle, sheep and horses. The farm is dedicated to the service and support of research, teaching and extension activities relating mainly to animals and animal management. This is a diverse position that will cover the activities of a commercial ranch but will also be involved in assisting with haying, irrigating, and livestock and range research projects as needed. Duties may also take you to our other farms and ranches in the area, such as Fort Ellis or Red Bluff Research Ranch Salary Negotiable Duties: • Assist with livestock work activities including calving, branding, breeding, and moving pastures • Maintenance and construction of barbed wire fence, electric fence, corrals, and facilities • Assist with breeding cattle • Assist with range monitoring and inventory • Wheel line irrigation • All aspects of haying • Assist with facilitating research projects • Assist with other areas of ranch as needed Required Qualifications • Strong work ethic • Ability to work outside in inclement weather • Ability to hold, lift, and maneuver heavy objects • Humble attitude and a desire to learn Preferred Qualifications • Previous experience with livestock • General construction knowledge and skill in building and maintaining fence • Ability to ride a horse • Ability to operate tractors and other equipment a plus • Ability to weld a plus To apply, send resume and references to Kellen Marlow, Livestock Operations Manager kellen.marlow@msu.montana.edu 81 visitors have viewed this ad
