The operation puts up around 8,000 bales annually across multiple cuttings. Equipment is well-maintained and modern. This is a working ranch where everyone pulls their weight, including the owners. Recently remodeled, partially furnished housing with a private yard. Not in the owner’s lap.

Responsibilities

Hay & Equipment Operations

Haul bales off the field and stack in the stack yard, organized by cutting for resale tracking.

Rake hay across 800 acres of irrigated alfalfa through multiple cuttings.

Swath hay when experience allows.

Monitor baler and swather for mechanical issues. Knowing when to stop is as important as knowing how to run it.

Operate a large modern tractor with air-conditioned cab.

Irrigation

Complete morning and evening checks on center pivot systems including oil levels, tire pressure, alignment, and confirming pivots are running on track.

Identify and report mechanical issues before they become field problems.

Coordinate irrigation timing around hay cuttings to get water back on as quickly as possible after baling.

Cattle Care & Herd Management

Complete daily pasture checks observing body condition, ears, eyes, feet, and overall health.

Put out salt and mineral and check water sources.

Move cattle to summer pasture rotations as needed.

Pair out cows and calves during fall calving season.

Sort and move cattle through the chute and between pastures.

Assist with fall calving checks and basic doctoring.

Check pasture by horse or four-wheeler depending on what the job calls for.

Facilities & Maintenance

Build, check, and repair fence across 8,000 acres alongside existing crew.

Grease and maintain equipment daily. Take pride in the machinery like it is your own.

Assist with general shop work. Welding experience is a plus.

Mow and maintain the ranch yard.

Maintain corrals and working facilities.

Qualifications

Experience running hay equipment is required. Alfalfa experience is not necessary as the owners will teach you what you need to know.

Must be comfortable around cattle. Not dedicated cowboy role but you need to know what you are looking at.

Must be honest, dependable, and able to handle long hours during hay season.

Welding or mechanical experience is a plus.

A willingness to learn goes a long way here. The owners are patient and knowledgeable and will invest in the right person.

Remote lifestyle must be a genuine fit. This location is real country and it needs to suit you before you arrive.

Compensation & Benefits

$2,000 to $2,300 per month DOE.

Housing included. Recently remodeled, partially furnished home with a private yard.

Beef provided.

Noon meal provided most days.

Hay season bonus.

Two horses permitted.

Winter work opportunities available in the area for those who stay on.
