Our Grand View operation spans 750 acres and runs approximately 110,000 head of cattle, the majority cross-bred beef. The feedlot sits against natural rimrock, with dry conditions, low humidity, and moderate temperatures year round, about 6.6 inches of annual rainfall and an average temperature near 67 degrees. Simply put: it’s good country for cattle and good country to ride. The Job Pen Riders at Grand View are the first line of defense for cattle health and well being. This is a full time, all day riding job. If being horseback is where you’re most comfortable, you’ll fit right in. Daily work includes: • Riding pens and checking cattle health • Head counts and identifying sick or stressed cattle • Moving cattle to and from hospital pens • Assisting with unloading, processing, and pen moves • Working closely with the feedlot team using low stress cattle handling practices Each cowboy typically looks after 5,000–15,000 head, depending on the time of year, across roughly 600 pens. You’ll be riding alongside a team of about 15 cowboys, all focused on doing things the right way, for the cattle and for each other.
