This position is based in southeast Montana, with travel to projects across multiple states including Montana, Arizona, and surrounding regions. We specialize in wildfire fuel reduction, noxious weed management, and regenerative vegetation management using goats and sheep in a wide range of environments—from rangeland to wildland-urban interface (WUI) projects. Job Overview This is a hands-on, physically demanding position working directly with livestock in remote settings. You will be responsible for the daily care, movement, and management of goat and sheep herds on active grazing contracts. Key Responsibilities Set up, maintain, and move electric net fencing systems Herd and move goats and sheep using herding dogs and low-stress livestock handling, Monitor herd health; identify, treat, and report illness or injury Assist with predator awareness and livestock guardian dog (LGD) care Haul and manage water systems (tanks, hoses, troughs) Feed and care for working dogs (LGDs and herding dogs) Load/unload livestock and assist with transport logistics Operate ranch vehicles (pickup & trailer) safely in rough terrain Maintain clean and organized camp and work areas Communicate daily progress and issues with management Work independently while meeting project goals and timelines Work Environment Remote, outdoor work in all weather conditions (heat, cold, wind, snow) Living on-site in a provided RV/camper setup Long days during peak project times Projects may be located in rugged terrain, forest, desert, or rangeland environments Requirements Ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform physical labor daily Valid driver’s license and ability to operate pickup/trailer Willingness to live and work in remote locations Strong work ethic, reliability, and self-motivation Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Basic livestock knowledge or willingness to learn quickly Preferred Experience (Not Required) Experience with goats, sheep, or other livestock Familiarity with electric fencing systems Experience with herding dogs or livestock guardian dogs Background in ranching, range management, or agriculture Experience towing trailers and hauling livestock Basic mechanical or troubleshooting skills Willing to train the right individual Compensation & Schedule Pay: DOE (Depending on Experience) Seasonal full-time position (typically spring through fall) Opportunity for year-round work based on performance and contracts Housing provided (RV living setup) To Apply Send a resume or brief letter of interest to: 📧 ohanagoats@gmail.com Posted 04-03-26 2617 visitors have viewed this ad
