The ranch runs cattle on the foothills, and into the Beartooth Mountains. Ranch crew and cattle work and live amongst multiple wildlife species and apex predators including wolves and grizzly bears. The ranch operates on over 100,000 acres. Primary enterprises are cow calf pairs, yearlings and stocker cattle. We are looking for someone to join our team near Roscoe, MT. This is a seasonal position from April 1 through mid-December. We are seeking a capable person with a positive, can-do attitude on a large-scale cattle ranch in South Central, MT. The primary duties will be day-to-day management of cattle and land management. This entails pasture calving, moving cattle, riding health, doctoring, feeding, salt and mineral, fencing and general ranch duties. Candidate must be capable with horses and able to perform cattle work horseback. Fence maintenance, barbed wire and electric fencing, and virtual fencing using collars on cattle with phone app management is part of daily work. Employee will primarily care for 1 herd of cow calf pairs and will assist the remainder of the team with other cattle herds and ranch work. Other daily work includes flood irrigation, stockwater tank maintenance and installation, maintain salt/ mineral and feed supplements, weed control, corral maintenance and construction, building maintenance, assist with calving, grazing and livestock management, general ranch cleanup and property improvements, move livestock, equipment operation and basic maintenance of equipment and small engines. Operation of ATV, UTV, skid steer and tractor for feeding will be frequent. Other equipment operation includes backhoe, dump truck and excavator depending on skill and ability. The work is primarily in Roscoe, but will also entail frequent travel to WY to help other units. Typically day trips, but occasional overnight. Previous cattle and horse experience is essential. Stockmanship and prior experience with proper stockmanship and low stress cattle handling is essential. Experience in operating tractor, backhoe and other construction equipment is preferred. Ability to use a smart phone for web-based data entry such as feed tracking, and virtual fence management for collared cattle is critical. Most importantly, a positive, can-do attitude, willingness to learn, thinking outside the box, and working individually or as a team. Housing, utilities and cell phone stipend are provided. Pay is DOE Duration is approximately April through mid-December depending on availability and ranch workload. Must have a valid driver’s license.
