We run approximately 3,500 high-quality Black Angus cow/calf pairs and are looking for someone who knows cattle, understands ranch equipment and isn’t afraid to tackle whatever needs to be done. This isn’t an entry-level ranch hand position, and it isn’t a desk job. We’re looking for a capable, well-rounded person with enough experience to work independently, recognize problems, use good judgment and take ownership of their work. What We’re Looking For The ideal candidate will have strong experience in several of these areas: Cattle: Handling, moving, sorting, and working cattle; strong cow sense; recognizing health and nutritional issues; treatment and prevention Calving: Experienced in monitoring cows, identifying problems, assisting difficult births, and caring for cows and newborn calves Equipment & Mechanical: Operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing farm and ranch equipment Haying: Experience with haying equipment and putting up hay Water Systems: Troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and installing wells, pipelines, and stock water systems Irrigation: Experience with pivots and flood irrigation Welding & Fabrication: Helpful and preferred, but not required General Ranch Work: Fencing, infrastructure, maintenance, and the wide variety of work that comes with operating a large Montana cattle ranch Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required We’re not expecting one person to be an expert at everything. Versatility matters. We want someone who has a strong ranch background, can figure things out, takes care of cattle and equipment, and is willing to jump in wherever needed. What We Offer Competitive salary — approximately $35,000–$50,000, depending on experience and capabilities Ranch housing provided (1800 SqFt, 3 bedrooms, 1 full bath/1 half bath, attached 2-car garage - 20 miles from Roundup) Families welcome Vehicle provided for work use Beef provided throughout the year SIMPLE IRA with employer match up to 3% Two weeks paid vacation after the first year Full-time, year-round employment Long-term opportunity with a respected, established Montana cattle operation Health insurance is not currently provided.
