Description:
Pearce Land and Cattle is seeking a cowboy and colt starter for our ranch near Caprock, NM. The cowboy and colt starter is responsible for daily ranch operations, equine training and assisting with our other ranches. This ranch is cow-calf with yearlings and an equine division. Compensation package includes salary (depending on experience), insurance, retirement, truck and trailer for ranch use, housing, utilities, and beef.



PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Oversee 500 head of cows plus additional yearlings.

Assist with operations on our other ranches.

Neighbor with nearby ranches during spring and fall works.

Ground work and halter break weanling and yearling horses.

Start approximately ten 2-year-old horses per year.

Prepare select horses for sale.

Assist with marketing of sale horses.

Keep windmills, solar wells, and electric wells in good working order.

Repair fences and mechanical equipment.

Maintain cleanliness, appearance, and organization of barns, houses, ranch vehicles, and equipment.



REQUIREMENTS:

General ranching experience, with preference given to applicants with more than 5 years of experience.

Ability to weld and operate heavy equipment.

Skilled in horseback riding and cattle husbandry.

Exceptional horsemanship skills specializing in colt starting.

Physically able to work outdoors in all types of weather.

Work Monday through Saturday and on Sunday, if necessary.
