Description:
HIRING

20 Minutes Northeast of Sturgis, South Dakota.

ISO Winter Calving (feb-april) and potentially Spring (april-june) Help. Ideally, this would be great if the same person was available for both.

February 5th through April 15th with possible extension through May for branding, cattle drives, fencing and irrigation preparation.

Housing and all meals provided for a Single Person if you want Housing and Meals.

Must be able to lift 75-100lbs.

Must be able to work and think quickly on feet.

Must be able to pay attention.

Must bring winter work gear, if it’s -40° and the wind is screaming, we still have to take care of the cattle- we don’t love it either.

Must not be hard to work with. We’ll be spending a lot of time together.

Salary Pay depending on experience. Additional Bonus depending on experience rewarded when we release you from employment- leaving/quitting early forfeits this bonus. Last season - we had a guy who I initally really liked that we were counting on staying for a certain period of time who left leaving us shorted- this is to avoid that happening again.

During the Calving Cycle- expect to work every day until we are finished. This means some long days when busiest, and many shorter days when things slow down. The cattle come first - and we will be working beside you, you will not be asked to do anything none of us have done. If we’re sick during calving, we’re working sick. There will be a night-time check you will go with one of us on. We are all on call at night as well.

Spring Work will consist of fencing, getting equipment ready, branding calves, moving cattle to spring grass, laying irrigation pipe, and other as needed projects. If we decide we need to cut you loose early because we don’t have enough labor to keep you busy - we will prorate out your current salary rate and include the aforementioned bonus.

If you’re difficult to work with, don’t come to work. No one will be hard on you just to be hard on you, but we all expect everyone to pull their weight.

We’re not a cowboy outfit, but we all have cowboyed- we just modernized as the years went by. Our equipment and facilities are in good working and maintained condition, our cattle are top performers. If you have a horse or two that you need to board during the duration of your employment- that could be worked out, but the opportunity for horseback work is minimal to non existent. If you leave on good terms, expect to be able to have permission to hunt and fish on the property through 2025.

It would be great if whoever took this job would be willing to try and commit for future Calving Seasons.

We are willing to train the inexperienced blue collar background that wants to work and learn. We have an aging workforce, this could lead to future full time employment + housing someday.

Private Message Me and/or send me your phone number and I will reach out to you. The start date could potentially be a little sooner if you needed it to be.
