If you are looking for a horse for your kids or grandkids (or even for yourself) and want one guaranteed to be safe and gentle for even the littlest or oldest one, then take a look at Candy. She is a 19 year old quarter horse mare with an excellent handle and stop, and she is light enough that the kids can turn and stop her with ease. She is the perfect size at 14.2hh, small enough not to intimidate the kids but big enough for the adults to ride as well. Candy always seems to know who is on her back and will tailor how fast she goes to their ability. Both my 6 and 10 year olds ride her and she will go slow and easy for the young one while stepping it up for the 10 year old. Candy was sold to us through an estate after her owner passed away so we did not receive her papers. She was a cutting horse in her younger days and spent the second half of her life on a ranch being enjoyed by an 82 year old man and his grandkids. Candy is the same horse every time you ride her, whether it is once a year or once a week. When we got her she had been turned out for 4 years, and I saddled her and rode her off with no issues. And then the same day put both of my boys on her and she was perfect. Candy rides great out on trails, and is not spooky, barn sour, or herd sour. She will ride just as good bareback in a halter as she does in a saddle and bridle. She has done barrels and poles at some local playdays and has also carried a flag in some grand entries. She has a very smooth trot and a short, rocking horse lope that the kiddos can ride easily. Candy has excellent ground manners and is perfect for the shoer. She is not mareish and gets along great with other horses. She will ride out alone as well as with a group, will happily lead or follow, and has been ridden down the road and in traffic and isn’t bothered by it. Asking $3,500.
