Description:
All -

My name is Austin Jardine.

I have a wildly different background than most. I am 33 years old, no wife / girlfriend, just a dog that’s glued to my hip. Well trained and cowy when needed.

In a previous life I was a corporate guy, with 10yrs of experience managing a variety of projects / programs / etc.

Over the last several years I have found my purpose in my hands and livestock. I spent a couple years giving a whole lot of try in the roughstock world and it has lead me to ranching full time. I spent about a year in Western CO working for a smaller family-owned cow/calf operation and and currently in Southern UT managing the barn and horse program at a dude ranch.

There are a lot of things I do know, and even more that I don’t... I am not afraid to ask, or research until I understand.

General of idea what i know / where i come from:

1. Basic wrenching - older trucks, basic hydraulics, general maintenance.

2. My welds are not pretty but they’ll get the job done.

3. Home repair: basic plumbing, siding, insulation, drywall.

4. Calving: no fear in getting in and pulling calves, have done and would do again. Also have a general understanding of when birthing is expected to start / intervention to stimulate. To include tubing and bottle feeding.

5. Doctoring: Have done in the chute / during branding.

6. Roping: Only if you’re in for a laugh, it’s something i need to get better at.

7. Working Horses: This is something I am familiar with, identifying lameness / soreness / developing a baseline plan for recovery. I would not consider myself a ’horseman’ since it’s a lifelong endeavor but I approach all new horses with the goal of understanding them first, establishing trust, and getting them to do whatever it is that i ask of them.

8. Machinery: Give me a quick run through and give me some time to learn how to run it smoothly, then I’m off to the races.

9. Tools: I grew up in a power tools store, very familiar with general maintenance and repair of most things.

10: Fencing: I can mend with the best of them.

11: Haying.

12: Irrigation

A few things I can offer outside of labor:

My corporate experience was largely in IT / Supply Chain. I can help develop models and forecasts for just about anything you need, whether that be financial modeling for hay purchases, fuel consumption, rotational grazing, estimates for new fencing, general understanding of current financial status etc. (I am not a certified accountant but can help put a general picture together)

What I am looking for:

Ideally I am looking for somewhere where I can bring everything I have learned throughout my life and provide meaningful work while continuing to learn more and refine. I am not one to sit static and prefer to be busy and go to bed each night tired knowing I did something that made a difference.

My preference is to spend more time on / around horses - training, breaking, working on. It’s where I feel closest to God.

Things you ought to know:

I have no record beyond a few speeding tickets.

I enjoy the occasional drink, but am not one to be hungover let alone party.

I enjoy my quiet, i can be as social as needed but prefer to be left on my own.

My dog, Grizz, is glued to my hip where I go he follows.

Assuming the environment fits, I am hoping to find a place longer term (+12mo)

Outside of work:

I try my best to make it to church when there’s time.

I love fly fishing, but it’s been a few months.

Waterfowl when i have the time and license.

Coyote hunting

Swing dancing is my favorite friday night activity.

I currently have very spotty cell phone service, so please shoot me a text and we can find a time to talk on the phone.
