Ernest “Ernie” Morris – Rawhide & Latigo Bosal

From the Joe & Derlyes Nab Collection



Exceptional, unused rawhide and latigo bosal by Ernest “Ernie” Morris (1927–2021) — one of the most respected braiders of the California vaquero tradition. This piece comes directly from the private Joe & Derlyes Nab Collection, close personal friends and longtime collectors of Ernie and Blanche Morris.



The bosal is identified on its original handwritten tag — written by Ernie himself — as “#1 of 6.” It features a 32-plait latigo noseband with a reddish tone and a 12-plait rawhide body, retaining its original latigo hanger.



No evidence of use — the braiding remains tight, clean, and supple, retaining the natural color and finish exactly as it left Morris’s bench.



A Letter of Provenance from the Joe & Derlyes Nab Estate accompanies the sale, verifying authenticity and its direct lineage within one of the most significant private holdings of Ernie Morris and Luis Ortega works.
