Position Overview: Cowboy Position Position Responsibilities • Monitor Grazing of Cow/Calf, Pairs and yearlings on Private and Public Allotments • Monitor Health, animal BCS and general appearance • Distribute mineral and salt on a consistent basis • Care for and shoe ranch provided horses • Head Counts on all animals in your care • Travel when needed to outside leases and other operating units for up to a week at a time • Some wintertime cattle feeding may be needed. • Fencing when necessary. Necessary Key Skills • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential. While this position primarily works independently, teamwork will be required for big days. It will be your responsibility to relay animal health information, grazing conditions etc. to the general manager. • Inventory management on 5-700 Cows at a time • Organization: you will be expected to work alone most of the time. Staying on task and completing the work before you will be your responsibility. • Safe pasture roping and doctoring • Shoeing skills Other Ranch Information • The use of illegal drugs or alcohol is strictly prohibited. Alcohol is not permitted on ranch property or in ranch housing. Personal use off property is not restricted, but consumption on property is not allowed. • No smoking is permitted on ranch property. • Working Dogs allowed • Up to 4 horses outside • Personal pets are welcome, with preference for well-behaved dogs that remain outside. Cats are allowed. The presence of pigs is negotiable outside we like to keep our housing and ranch vehicles clean and well kept. • Hablamos español, pero no muy bien. ¡Pero estamos dispuestos a aprender!
