Responsible, retired adult seeking peace and quiet in the rural American West (west of Interstate 35) with a rental unit on a family farm, ranch or country home. Something well away from all highways and cities...no traffic noise, no industrial noise, and plenty of distance to the nearest neighbors.

Almost any type of living space will do, whether it’s a small guest house, a carriage house, a mother-in-law unit, a cabin, a bunkhouse, a garage apartment, a barn apartment, etc...but no basement units, please. Furnished or unfurnished, either is fine. Doesn’t have to be pretty or decorated, just clean, safe, properly insulated and free of pests. A smaller unit is preferred; I have no interest in renting an entire house...unless it is small and requires no yard maintenance. I need true fair-market rent based on size, not tourist/Airbnb rates. I’m open to short-term rentals of 60 to 180 days, or if I find the right place, long-term residency with an annual lease. Rental space must have a private entrance, independent HVAC, and access to on-site laundry (can be existing machines, hookups, or shared laundry). I need a location with a strong cell phone signal or the ability to install high-speed internet service.

Looking for a solid and friendly relationship with the landowner; helping each other by keeping an eye on things, picking up supplies on trips to town, and so on. I’d also enjoy assisting on the property just for the love of doing so...feeding animals, driving an extra vehicle during the harvest, etc. I have friends who ranch and farm in other areas of the country. I’ve spent a great deal of time in agricultural settings and I feel very much at home there. I love being around livestock, and I’ve participated in crop harvesting and cattle drives. But please note that due to my unpredictable travel schedule, I am not interested in becoming a full-time caretaker or an employed ranch/farm hand.

I am a quiet and responsible tenant. I practice energy-efficient living. I’m able to perform small repairs (with your prior approval). I have no pets. I am a non-smoker and do not use recreational drugs. I have no criminal record. My current credit score is 829. References available. I will be able to move in anytime after November 20, 2025. An in-person tour of the property is required before anything is signed and before any money changes hands. Thank you! ~ Scott
