They run 750 cows, yearlings in the summer and background cattle from October to May. Candidates should be hardworking, dependable, and willing to take initiative in daily ranch operations. Housing & Horses Housing near the yard provided (options for single or family housing) Utilities included Personal horses preferred (company horses may be arranged if needed) Dogs allowed if well-trained and not disruptive; not permitted in housing Other animals considered on a case-by-case basis Key Responsibilities Daily care and monitoring of backgrounding cattle (October–May) Assist with the caring for the cows Assist with yearlings on grass during summer months Identify and doctor sick cattle Feed and mix rations as needed Operate ranch equipment (tractors, feed trucks,feed wagon, side-by-sides) Assist with irrigation pivots if experienced (not required) Complete general ranch maintenance and livestock care tasks Horseback work for gathering, checking, and handling cattle Schedule & Work Expectations Full-time, year-round role During backgrounding season (Oct–May): 7 days/week, with weekends covering essentials duties Summer schedule includes rotating Sundays off and possible additional weekends Holidays: essentials only if cattle are on feed Qualifications Must-Have Skills Strong horseback riding skills Ability to identify and treat sick cattle Basic equipment operation and maintenance skills Preferred Skills Experience in backgrounding cattle Feeding and ration mixing experience Irrigation/pivot experience Compensation & Benefits Salary: Approximately $45,000/year Housing & utilities provided Health insurance available after 60 days (multiple plan options, HSA contributions included) 401(k) with company match (35% of every dollar contributed) Paid vacation (starts at 2 weeks, increases with tenure) Candidate Fit The ideal candidate is a self-starter who takes initiative, enjoys working with cattle both horseback and with equipment, and is open to learning.
