Description:
I am looking for a goat ranch intern for 1 to 2 months starting immediately and running into the fall.



I run around 300 head of goats and need someone to herd them approximately 5 hours a day, 7 days a week. I recognize that 7 days a week is a demanding schedule, however, this is a position that someone new to the ag world could learn and gain experience with livestock. Additionally, the goats are kept in a pen the rest of the time, allowing for short day, approximately 5 hours per day.



The herding may be done in either one 5 hour period per day, or two 2 1/2 hour periods in the morning and evening, depending on my preference and your preference.



Because I am seeking someone to work 7 days a week, I am limiting the position to 1 to 2 months, with the expectation that the applicant would work each day of the time period.



I provide housing and a $700 per month intern stipend to pay for food.



If you have a dog or horse you are welcome to bring it. I will provide horse feed.



If you have some riding experience, then this could be a riding position, using a horse to herd the goats. If you have no or little riding experience, I could introduce you to riding. But due to the priority of herding the goats, the applicant may not be able to ride to herd if the skill level is not there yet. Thus, the herding would likely be done on foot.



The herding is in the foot hills of the mountains of central Utah. There is lots of hiking involved.



Once you get the hang of goat herding, it is more about positing your self in the right place and being proactive. Otherwise, there is downtime and plenty of time to read a book.



The remaining part of the day you are welcome to use your time as you wish, but can engage in other chores or horse work if desired for the sake of experience.
