He was started by Gus, then advanced on to Matlock Rice. He was there for 15 months. Matlock showed him at SHTX shows, where he won some money, also competed at NRCHA pre Futurity and Snaffle Bit Futurity (Open Level 1). Following that we took him home and started using him. Now he’s rode feedlot pens, roped and doctored a bunch of yearlings on wheat, roped out of a box a little and a couple ranch rodeos. He is easy to saddle, stands tied, easy to shoe, bathe, loads and unloads easy. He could go on in the Cowhorse or ranch horse shows, he has marked 73’s in each of the 3 events, at different shows. He is capable of winning with just a little more consistency. He will make a rope horse easily. I believe he can be a true switch ender, or calf horse too. He is also a good working ranch horse, every day is a good day when it’s Hondo’s turn to work. Whether you do one of those or all 3, I think you will like this colt, he has the breeding, conformation and all the buttons! Hondo is not a Kids horse or one for beginners in my opinion. A lot of non pro’s could get along with him fine. Leave him sit to long and he may try to buck a few jumps. He’s not any good at it but it’s still there and I’m calling it that way. No soundness issues, or blemishes. He has had hock and stifle injections as a 3 year old before Futurity.
