Haying: 1 Room And Board: 1 Phone#: 2084404497 Description: Hello, My name is Austin Jardine, I am 33yo and currently located in Western Colorado working full time for a family Cow/Calf operation as a live-in hand. My story is a little odd and lengthy, but here is the short version: I am a former roughstock rider and a former corporate desk jockey. I was working part time at the ranch in exchange for housing when I was laid off from my corporate job as part of downsizing. After this occurred earlier this year, I moved straight into ranching full time. At this point, l have no desire to go back to working a dedicated desk job and have found more fulfillment working with my hands and animals. I am looking for full-time employment with housing. Basic skills, happy to elaborate on any: 1. Maintenance and Minor Repair on Vehicles, ATV’s, and Heavy Equipment (Tractors, attachments) 2. Roughcut construction (new lean-to’s, home repair) 3. Irrigation (flood/ditch) 4. Organization (setting up new shop space and tool management) 5. Fence repair (barbed wire, corral) 6. Predator management 7. Calving (yes - I have been shoulder-deep to pull) 8. Branding and Vaccination (Squeeze Chute, Calf Table, rope and drag) 9. Haying (my first go-round will start this week) 10. I know my way around a horse and can ride, but would not yet consider myself a horseman. I come with a saddle but no horse. Temperament: I can be as social or as quiet as you need. I can get along with just about anyone, but once given a task and the expected outcome, I am better left with my headphones and an audiobook to get the job done. My record is clean - aside from speeding tickets - and I have no addictions. I generally will ask as many questions as I need to understand what you are looking for and make sure I am meeting your expectations. I make no assumptions and will eat humble pie any and every day. That being said, I don’t ask if we’re done; I ask what’s next. For the long term, I have two goals in mind. One is to learn as much from as many folks as I can, and work my way into a ranch manager position. The other is to work with horses more. They are incredible creatures, and I would love the opportunity to become more skilled at working with them and begin to train my own. Outside of ranching: I am a big waterfowl guy - duck hunting is the dream. I also love fly fishing and was once a long range rifle competitor. Otherwise, if it’s Saturday night and there’s dancing to be had, I will be cutting a rug. The reason I am writing this is to see if there are any opportunities out there to keep growing and exploring the country. I am open to relocation and looking for something beginning 2026, I’d like to finish my commitment here and see my family for Christmas.
