Description:
Gemstone is a true gentle giant and one of the nicest Belgians we have had in a long time. She is safe for the entire family to be around and to ride, and will take care of her rider every time, no matter how small or inexperienced. Gemstone is 16 years old and 16.2hh, big enough to carry a large adult but not so tall that she is scary for the kids. She stands perfectly still to mount, and will get up next to a fence, tail gate or mounting block to let you get on. She originally came from the Amish in Iowa, has been hooked to a plow most of her life and will drive single or double. Gemstone has also been ridden extensively and is as easy as point, kick and go. Both of my boys ages 6 and 9 ride her, and she will only go as fast as they are comfortable going. She can tell when a little one is on her and takes extra care with them. Gemstone will go anywhere you ask her to, crosses water with no problem, will go through tall brush, over logs, and never hesitates. She is an excellent trail horse, will ride by herself or in a group, and doesn’t mind being separated from the group and going off on her own. She is not barn sour or herd sour, and is not mareish at all. Gemstone has an incredibly smooth trot that you could sit to all day long, and she rides just as good bareback in a halter as she does with a saddle and bridle. She will willingly trot and will lope with a little pushing, and has an excellent stop. We have literally found nothing that bothers her or scares her, and she is as solid and steady as they come. Gemstone is very easy to catch, stands quietly to be saddled, and takes a bridle easily. She rides just as good away from home as she does at home. She is light mouthed and easy to stop and turn. Gemstone rides down the road and in traffic and isn’t bothered by it, and would be an excellent horse to ride in parades. She is good with dogs, chickens, pigs, and all other small animals. She is pretty good with her feet and does not require stocks to be shod. Gemstone loads easily and hauls well, and can be turned out with mares or geldings without issue. She just had her feet trimmed, teeth floated, and a new coggins drawn, and is sound with no health issues. Asking $5500. Call Wendy for more information at 210-363-1883.
