This is not a typical job—and we’re not looking for a typical hand. We’re after someone humble, capable, willing, and committed to doing what needs done, day in and day out. About the Operation: This is a yearling and mother cow operation. Cattle calve out on the range, and we probably spend more time horseback than 90% of other operations in Montana. If you’re looking for a job just driving around checking water and putting out salt, this isn’t it. We have to trail cattle farther than most outfits to get to pasture, and while the work is hard, it’s also honest and deeply rewarding. The terrain is tough and beautiful, the days can be long, and the country is about as wild and remote as it gets. We operate more like ranches in Arizona or New Mexico than what you’ll find elsewhere in Montana. We run a tight crew—a few mild-natured, but extremely hard-working guys—and we’re looking for someone who fits that mold. What We’re Looking For: •Hardworking, reliable, and flexible • Strong horseback skills – able to consistently ride long days, in 20º below or 100º above • Not the wild cowboy or rodeo type •Willing to help with fencing, water tank installation, and general ranch work •Someone with a good attitude and a humble, team-first mindset •Willing to live in a cow camp for about a month in the Fall (with chances to visit family weekly) •Trail cattle from daylight to dark and work horseback through rough country •Ideally looking to fill a long-term position but would consider a temporary/ seasonal employee •Looking for a handy cowpuncher who doesn’t need to say they are one Seasonal Breakdown: •March–Mid-April: Processing cattle •Mid-April–Late June: Trailing cattle out to pasture •July: Ranch projects and preparation for Fall works •Mid-August–Mid-December: Days are spent primarily horseback, gathering cattle, preg testing, and shipping •Mid-December - February: Feeding cows, preparation for the next season & shop projects Details: •Very remote location – the nearest school is 35 miles down a gravel/ dirt road in Winnett, MT •Must be willing to do a little of everything •Position requires living and working in fairly isolated country day in and day out •Not an absentee owner ranch This is not a job—it’s a way of life.
