Description:
Ranch Caretaker / Manager – Long-Term Live-In Role



We are seeking a highly self-motivated, capable, and accountable individual to take on a long-term role as the primary caretaker of a private working ranch.



This is not a casual or temporary position. It requires independence, strong work ethic, and pride in maintaining and improving a property without supervision.







Who This Role Is For



This role is best suited for someone who:



* Is naturally productive and does not need direction to stay busy

* Takes initiative and fixes problems before they become bigger issues

* Enjoys working with their hands and being outdoors

* Has real, practical experience (not just interest)

* Is looking for a stable, long-term living situation



If you need constant direction, prefer clocking in/out, or are exploring ranching short-term, this will not be a good fit.







Core Responsibilities



Animal Care (Daily & Seasonal)



* Feed animals daily

* Summer: dogs and chickens

* Winter: dogs, chickens, goats, sheep, cows (hay feeding via skid steer/tractor)

* Monitor animal health and act proactively

* Supplementation, minerals, deworming, early illness detection

* Manage breeding cycles and calving

* Separate bulls, monitor pregnancies, assist with births, care for mothers and newborns







Livestock Processing



* Shear ~15 sheep twice per year (equipment provided)

* Slaughter and butcher:

* 1 cow + several lambs, goats annually on-site; we have equipment

* Produce clean, organized cuts with labeled inventory







Property & Infrastructure



* Weekly inspection of all cabins and structures

* Check for rodents, leaks, alarms, damage, etc.

* Proper winterizing and de-winterizing (pipes, systems, structures)

* Fence maintenance:

* Daily perimeter checks

* Repair damage, remove fallen trees

* Maintain water systems and tanks







Seasonal Projects



* Fence building and repair

* Grazing setup (including electric fencing)

* Firewood processing

* Staining decks/fences

* General maintenance and improvement projects

* Occasional haying (if applicable)







Chickens



* Collect eggs daily

* Clean coop weekly







Work Style Expectations





* No micromanagement—you must manage your own time

* Expected to proactively identify and complete needed work

* Maintain:

* Daily work logs

* Equipment and vehicle maintenance records

* Animal health and husbandry records







Living Arrangement (Important)



Housing is provided for the employee role.



A partner may also reside on the property only if the overall system continues to function well and expectations are met.



When the owner is in residence, this includes:



* Daily kitchen upkeep in the main house

(light cleaning, dishes, and maintaining order—not deep cleaning)



This is a condition of living on the property, not a separate employment role.



Outside of this, the partner is not assigned ongoing duties.



The employee’s performance expectations remain unchanged regardless of whether a partner resides on the property.







Important Fit Requirements



* This is a live-in, on-site role

* No outside employment

* We are seeking someone long-term who will treat this ranch as their own



This role works best for individuals (or couples) who are:



* Self-directed

* Focused

* Comfortable with independence and responsibility







Compensation



* $2,000/month base

* $3,000/month if you bring strong skills in:

* Plumbing

* Electrical

* Carpentry

* Mechanical work



Compensation increases over time based on:



* Performance

* Initiative

* Longevity

* Demonstrated care for the property

* Loyalty







Housing & Benefits



Included:



* Furnished private residence:

* 2 bedrooms, kitchen, living/dining, loft, bathroom

* Porch, pond view, firepit, fireplace

* Utilities: electricity, water, propane, internet

* Ranch-use vehicle + side-by-side

* Eggs and ranch-produced meat

* Greenhouse access

* Yearly: 2 weeks paid vacation after 6 months working (coordinated with owner presence)
