The Unit Manager is responsible for identifying necessary activities related to ranch infrastructure and cattle. The Unit Manager prioritizes the relative activities, coordinates with GM, and ensures all activities are successfully completed in a timely, efficient, and professional manner. Qualifications: ● Candidates must have a preference for remote country living ● Ability to work weekends upon request to assist with livestock operations ● Operation and maintenance of heavy equipment ● Ability to accurately solve problems ● Ability to work established work schedule ● Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, and GM ● Ability to consider safety in all decisions ● Ability to complete multiple, diverse tasks of differing priorities ● Ability to successfully perform the responsibilities of this position ● Must develop and master understanding of ranch organizational responsibilities for each department and abide by all policies ● Must be a team player and possess excellent communication skills ● Must have a valid driver’s license in good standing, the ability to be an approved driver for the company and to safely operate vehicles ● Must have the ability to traverse rough terrain and work independently in harsh conditions ● Great work ethic Responsibilities: ● Work closely and respectfully with other unit manager’s • When available, work with and assist other unit managers to best utilize resources of labor and equipment ● Willing to help in the Columbia Basin on winter operation. This is required and will last 5 to 6 months a year. ● Help maintain all records for cattle operations ● Monitor cattle herd by performing visual inspections of the cattle, feed, and water sources • Work with GM to have proper vaccinations and minerals available when needed • Ensure cattle receive the proper mineral regime as directed by ranch protocol • Ensure cattle are kept out of sensitive riparian zones per lease agreements ● Develop an annual cattle plan specifically around pasture rotation and protocols. Including: • Monitoring pasture conditions • Corral animals for vaccinations or branding • Transport animals to different units • Identify and determine proper treatment for sick animals • Maintain high standards of animal welfare ● Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed ● Able to identify what work needs to be done ● Able to prioritize, develop, and communicate the plan Infrastructure: ● Maintain ranch infrastructures such as fences, ponds, roads, corals, water systems, housing, and buildings including construction, repair, and maintenance ● Maintain all ranch equipment including vehicles, tractors, dozers, and feeders ● Ranch beautification and projects including lawn mowing, weed eating, barn cleaning, vehicle cleaning LBCC is a large cow/calf operation based in Northeastern Oregon with several locations.
