It breaks my heart to be writing this ad because I just love this dog so much. He’s 5 years old, fixed male. (Fixed this past year.) His dam is our Great Pyrenees and the sire is a really special purebred Kangal brought straight from a famous breeder in central Turkey. They had a litter in March 2020 and Bruno is from that litter. We raised him with a large flock of sheep from the outset and he has been an amazing guardian dog. He’s smart, discerning, has shown great instincts, and is a sweetie with everyone he gets to know. The problem started when his sister from that litter, who has no flock of her own and lives on a ranch next door, taught him how to jump electric fence. Now he jumps fence. We don’t really have the right set up or capacity to give him enough feedback to teach him otherwise, and we’re downsizing our flock anyhow. He’s just about the most beautiful dog you’ve ever seen. He tends to be skeptical of people until they win him over or show him they’re his people. He’s never bitten, just growled. He’s an excellent guardian—-he knows how to guard his animals extremely well, and to humans he’s intimidating as all get up, so if you’re looking for a dog to guard your area of strangers too, he’s a great fit. I think there are a few possible good fit scenarios: 1) he would be happy to just be a ranch dog. Even though he’s grown up as a working dog, he’d be happy to just live on a ranch and not have a job. 2) guard a flock where he doesn’t need to stay in the fence or the fence is good and tall. 3) Have someone there who can give him the reinforcement he needs to break the habit of jumping fence.
