Looking for a ranch hand to take care of basic ranch needs. Daily- Feeding cows, chickens, sheep, goats. Cleaning coop and sheds, assessing health of the animals (only around a dozen of each, so you will know them personally, and it’s not very time consuming), calving, caring for the young Must be able to use skid steer to move the round bales. Basic skills like moving electric fence in summers for grazing, fixing fences year round that go down, build new sections of fence to increase grazing areas, keeping perimeter fence solid (daily checks) to keep all animals on property. Weekly checks on all structures to report any breaches or issues that need resolving. Things you can fix-great, things you can’t-we bring in outside help. Winterizing and de-winterizing cabins, snow clearing/de-icing if necessary; wood staining and basic property maintenance in summer. Keeping records of maintenance, doing basic vehicle maintenance, keeping them clean and running. Keep shop, animal feed, tools organized and tidy. You have autonomy of your days but you you will be in close contact with the owner daily to discuss the ranch, projects, problems, etc This position only works for solitary types- owners can be away for a month or more at a time. Don’t say you are ok being alone and then cry because you are lonely. Don’t be afraid of your own shadow. Do not go into local town and make “friends” in bars and sammy counters. We have seen it all. Loyalty counts most. Trust goes both ways. You have a beautiful place to stay, your needs are met, you’ve got work, and if it works out we are willing to let you stay here to live out your life. Safety in an unknown world. If you don’t value that, and if you are still on the hunt for your own ranch or to see the great big world, or to start a family, this is not for you. We want to create a long lasting trust bond with anyone who works on this ranch, so we will treat you right but expect the same. We respect hard workers and good thinkers. We think this is the best job in the world- if we had the time we would be doing it! You will live in a two bedroom log cabin with kitchen, living/dining, loft, wood fireplace, electricity, water, internet overlooking a pond and creek. Side by side for ranching, company car for all ranch business off the property, two weeks paid vacation each year, and $2000 for incidental living expenses each month (if you are able to legitimately do electric, carpentry or plumbing there is room for additional compensation). Eggs. Plenty of time for yourself. If you bring horses, we will pay for their care if we are able to ride them (respectfully and under your supervision). Property was once a dude ranch.
