Description:
The Diamond Cross in Birney, MT is looking to hire a seasonal ranch hand for the Hanging Woman Unit. Employment would be from March 1st through October 31st. The unit is 1.5 hours from Sheridan, WY and about 40 miles to the nearest paved road.



There are 100 heifers to calve from March 15th through May 1, & 400 cows to take to grass around April 1st.



You’ll help with calving, feeding, fencing (pretty heavy in the spring as we get ready to go to grass but expect 2-3 days a week as we had a lot of fire last summer),branding around 1100 calves, haying, pasture rotations, water system checks & maintenance, etc. We do night watch on the heifers in shifts and you’ll be responsible for the 12 and 2 am checks during calving. We strive for 5.75 day workweek during non peak times however that will be extended during calving. Cow work is done horseback and we heel calves to brand.



Benefits include: furnished housing, some beef, ranch vehicle for work use, & internet. Have to do your own cooking.



4 personal horses allowed, mares ok. 2 working dogs allowed but they must stay home when we are branding, working with heifer pairs, and stay out of the corral unless they’re asked to come in. Calving & equipment (skidsteer & tractor) experience preferred but attitude is more important than experience and will possibly hire someone with little but you must have your own tack, know your way around a horse, and be a confident rider as there’ll be times you’re pairing out or moving smaller groups alone. Accommodations are suited for single individuals as you may have to share housing with other seasonal employees June-Oct.
