Description:
Kate is a very sweet mare who came into our program very underweight. Since she has been in our care, we have put significant weight on her and treated her EPM. Kate is estimated to be between 15-17 years of age. She has been nothing but excellent to work with, despite her rugged history. Kate has had a good foundation put on her and she has great ground manners. This sweet girl can use some more work with desensitizing and building a solid routine, but she will make an excellent horse in no time at all.



She could use more work perfecting it, but she allowed us to pick up and trim all four feet, though she kept wanting to pull her foot back after a moment. Kate ties well, but if she is frightened she may pull back for a moment. Kate stands very patiently on our patience pole or tied, otherwise. She can have a hard time being caught when out in pasture, but she is getting better about facing you and coming in when asked and we will continue to work on this. We believe routine will be Kate’s best bet!



As of 12/17 Kate has had her very first ride! It was one of the best that we’ve had as far as starting horses goes. Kate was very easygoing and was overall a smooth ride. She did get startled on occasion, but she was very very soft and responsive to my hands and disengaged her hindquarters nicely. After she was used to me being on her back, she settled in nicely and had a very relaxed demeanor. She would make an excellent trail or ranch horse once she has had more miles. Based on how well she did for her first ride, we feel as though it won’t take her long to get there. The video below is her riding on her very first ride, so you can see for yourself how well she did! She can suck up and may buck with an inexperienced rider, so I recommend you to know what you’re doing or send her to somebody who does!



The longer she is here, the more she will be ridden. Come get this sweet girl and take her home! You’ll be happy to have her and she’ll be happy to have you!
