Description:
Hi, I am Emily and I am looking to work one more calving/summer season out west (preference to WY, CO, MT) before making a career change in the fall (School starts Sept 2025). I have experience in a feedlot and on a ranch. I am a graduate of the University of Georgia with a great appreciation for the cattle industry and a great passion for working with cattle.

In 2018, I worked as a wrangler on the Laramie River Dude Ranch in Jelm, WY. I was primarily responsible for leading guests on 2-6 hour trail rides across all kinds of terrain ensuring their safety while riding. Other duties included gathering and caring for the herd of 80 horses every morning.

In 2019, I moved to the Bartlett Ranch in La Grange, WY where my primary responsibility was to foal out approximately 100 mares, halter break the colts, and continue their training up until they reached riding age. This position garnered me extensive experience in the care, training, and doctoring of horses. Over the course of employment, I doctored a wide variety of injuries which required applying bandages or casts and administering medications. Throughout foaling season, I kept detailed records of each foal born to register them with the AQHA. After the passing of Dr. Woody Bartlett, his remuda of horses was sold.

I then accepted a position at a feedlot, Sioux County Feeders in Mitchell, NE in 2021. When I began at the feedlot, my experience with cattle was limited. However, I gained invaluable experience in my time at the feed yard. While I was primarily a pen rider, I learned how to fill in as a feed truck driver as well. I rode through pens daily, pulling sick cattle and doctoring them through a chute. Additionally, I would sort, process, re-implant, receive new cattle, and ship out fat cattle. During the winter and spring months, we ran calves on corn stalks where we would rope and doctor them outside. While I am not a professional roper, I am comfortable with a rope and can doctor cattle via two-man, or one-man doctoring and have done so on bigger cattle. We built miles of electric fence for the cattle outside the feedlot. I was responsible for helping in the construction, maintaining, and removing of the fence lines. Additionally, I can operate a payloader, skid steer, dump truck, tractor, feed truck, and feed wagon. On the manager’s days off, I was responsible for reading bunks, making feed calls, and delegating loads to the feed truck drivers. When we were short a feed-truck driver, I would load ingredients onto the truck via a payloader and deliver loads myself. I am well-versed in the computer system that we used to keep track of our doctoring, withdrawal periods, and feeding. Occasionally heifers would have calves in the feedlot and in a few instances I took these calves home, started them on the bottle, and found new homes for them. During the summer months, our cattle numbers were lower, and I would spend a great deal of time cleaning pens, fixing fences, and making improvements to the feedlot.

In January 2024, I left Sioux County to work on a cow/calf ranch north of Douglas, WY where I became well-versed in the ins and outs of a cow/calf operation including calving heifers, moving pairs, tagging and doctoring calves, branding, and extensive barbed wire fencing. The 150 first calf heifers calved over a period of 60 days and another ranch hand and I would check them through the night, make decisions on pulling calves, and ensure heifers paired with their calves properly. I most recently spent time working on a smaller ranch in Jefferson, CO. During my time in Colorado, I gained some experience with putting up hay.

In November of 2024, I decided to return home to Alabama to spend the holiday season with my family. I am now looking to relocate back to Wyoming to work another calving and summer season before making a career change in the fall. I am well-educated, highly motivated, a quick learner, and very teachable.

I would require housing and do have 2 broke horses as well as a well-behaved, non-working dog. I have a resume with references ready for those interested.
